Hive, a brand most famed for its smart heating system, has released a new security camera in partnership with world renowned designer Yves Béhar, the second collaboration between the pair. Not only does the Hive View look the part, it also comes with a completely detachable lens which offers a 130º wide-angle field of view.
If you’re not familiar with Yves Béhar, his fingerprints can be seen on collaborations throughout the design world. Just last year he designed a portable record player which span around the vinyl, as well as the gorgeous ‘The Frame’ TV with Samsung. For early 2018, Béhar has teamed up with Hive for a lightweight and detachable indoor camera called the View.
The Hive View is all about compact manoeuvrability with the main selling point a feature called ‘grab and go’, which essentially means you can remove it from its stand, place it at a different point in your house, and still take footage for an hour thanks to a battery in the camera unit.
Wherever it’s placed it can rotate and flex with a 130º wide-angle lens field of view and can livestream a 1080p HD feed directly to your phone thanks to infra-red. You will need an iPhone or iPad with iOS 9 or higher, or an Android 4.4 or later in order to access the feed, however.
It also comes with person detection and a history roll that can be accessed whenever you need it. The movement/sound activated device begins automatically recording once triggered and sends a notification if something is detected. We should also say it looks great and would fit seamlessly in any contemporary home.
Available in either Champagne Gold or Black with Brushed Copper, the Hive View is available now in the UK for £189. You should be warned, however, that footage can only be viewed for 24 hours, unless you decide to get the 30-day history upgrade which does come at an extra cost.
