New Balance x New Era MT580
Some people collect them, some people wear them. The same can be said of both caps and sneakers. Some of us may only like one, some may like both. This Joe likes both, wears both and has a modest collection of both. Therefore our interest was piqued when New Balance announced a collaborative drop with New Era set for early 2016. Now we know, January 8th at select retailers is when you want to look out for this..
New Balance are giving their incredibly popular and versatile MT580 a fresh new look for its 20th anniversary. The shoe features a dark black nubuck upper, with reflective accents on the heel and on the side. The all black look is enhanced by a New Era custom black lace keeper. The darkness of the design are contrasted heavily by the reflective elements of the upper which are further enhanced by the outlandish and rather striking glow-in-the-dark outsole. We have always been fond of the MT580 design, which has undergone many a different look over the past 20 years, but this has to be one of our favourites. This specific look has been reportedly inspired by solarised photography.
Solarisation is a phenomenon in photography in which the image recorded on a negative or on a photographic print is wholly or partially reversed in tone. Dark areas appear light or light areas appear dark. Thanks Wikipedia.
In continuation of this theme, we see the customised New Era snapback adopt a similar colourway. The crown is also all black, with a black brim on the upper, a 580 detailing on the back and the standard New Era flag logo on the side. However, hit the lights, and it is revealed that the brim has reflective detailing similar to the sneakers, and the New Era flag logo, which appears initially similar to the glow-in-the-dark green hue of the sole, also stands out.
What do you think of this collaboration? Its early on in 2016 and the drops are already getting good!
